Sascha Launches New Wheelchair Accessible Carriage on Severn Valley Railway Line

Sascha joined wheelchair athlete and fellow Paralympic Medalist Mickey Bushell at Kidderminster Town Station (pictured below) today to launch a new wheelchair accessible carriage on the Severn Valley Railway Line.

The new carriage allows for easier access for wheelchair users and people with a disability onto Severn Valley Railway trains and is the fourth new carriage to be added to its fleet in the past year.

Sascha and Mickey travelled on the carriages maiden journey and were towed by a steam engine from Kidderminster to Bridgenorth and back. On the return journey, Sascha joined the driver at the front of the train and helped drive the train back to Kidderminster.

Commenting on the launch Sascha said, "Improving access to ensure services like this are available to everyone, including people with a disability, is extremely important to me. Severn Valley Railway's new carriage will make it easier for everyone to travel around the valley and I'm pleased to have had the opportunity to get involved."

Sascha and Mickey were great ambassadors for British Sport as they joined passengers on the SVR. My six year old grandson was delighted when Sascha let him have his photo taken with the Gold medal. These two men were such a pleasure to talk to and looked wonderful in their team GB kit.
